چکیده

Object segmentation requires both object-level information and low-level pixel data. This presents a challenge for feedforward networks: lower layers in convolutional nets capture rich spatial information, while upper layers encode object-level knowledge but are invariant to factors such as pose and appearance. In this work we propose to augment feedforward nets for object segmentation with a novel top-down refinement approach. The resulting bottom-up/top-down architecture is capable of efficiently generating high-fidelity object masks. Similarly to skip connections, our approach leverages features at all layers of the net. Unlike skip connections, our approach does not attempt to output independent predictions at each layer. Instead, we first output a coarse ‘mask encoding’ in a feedforward pass, then refine this mask encoding in a topdown pass utilizing features at successively lower layers. The approach is simple, fast, and effective. Building on the recent DeepMask network for generating object proposals, we show accuracy improvements of 1020% in average recall for various setups. Additionally, by optimizing the overall network architecture, our approach, which we call SharpMask, is 50% faster than the original DeepMask network (under .8s per image).

Composite Statistical Learning and Inference for Semantic Segmentation

In this paper we present a learning and inference framework, Composite Statistical Learning and Inference (CSLI), for random fields with extremely high order interactions. Instead of conventional probabilistic approaches that build models on clique potentials, we propose to focus on subset statistics from overlapping random variable subsets and employ composite likelihood approaches for learnin...

Pixel-wise object tracking

In this paper, we propose a novel pixel-wise visual object tracking framework that can track any anonymous object in a noisy background. The framework consists of two submodels, a global attention model and a local segmentation model. The global model generates a region of interests (ROI) that the object may lie in the new frame based on the past object segmentation maps; while the local model ...

Attention-Guided Organized Perception and Learning of Object Categories Based on Probabilistic Latent Variable Models

This paper proposes a probabilistic model of object category learning in conjunction with attention-guided organized perception. This model consists of a model of attention-guided organized perception of object segments on Markov random fields and a model of learning object categories based on a probabilistic latent component analysis. In attentionguided organized perception, concurrent figure-...

Learning and Predicting Moving Object Trajectory: A Piecewise Trajectory Segment Approach

This paper presents an approach to predict future motion of a moving object based on its past movement. This approach is capable of learning object movement in an open environment, which is one of the limitions in some prior works. The proposed approach exploits the similarities of short-term movement behaviors by modeling a trajectory as concatenation of short segments. These short segments ar...

The effect of Code switching on the Acquisition of Object Relative Clauses by Iranian EFL Learners

This study attempted to investigate the impact of teacher’s code-switching on the acquisition of a problematic grammatical structure, namely, object relative clauses, by intermediate EFL learners. Moreover, a secondary objective of the study was to determine the EFL learners’ attitudes and opinions regarding the effectiveness of teacher’s code-switching in their learning of a specific aspect of...
